Bollocks to you, comment spammers!
Published January 19th, 2006I didn’t want to have to put barriers in the way of anyone wanting to comment on my site, but today my hand was forced. After being hit with nearly three dozen spam comments in just a few hours, it has become clear that my site has been logged, somewhere, as a nice easy target.
Hence the new field on the comment form — a rather ugly chunk of nonsense text that you have to copy out in order to post. Often referred to by the rather ungainly acronym CAPTCHA (“Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart” — snappy, huh?) it’s just a way to prevent automated ‘bots’ from posting comments (or at least, make it difficult for them). The version I’m using is a WordPress plugin called SecureImage. It was pretty easy to set up…only time will tell how effective it is.
In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to say the following to all comment spammers: fuck you. Fuck you very much.

Brilliant! I killed my blog due to blog spamming. Had about 4000 comments about Poker. Biggup to your Flash stuff!

Hmm…Bad behaviour looks interesting. I might give it a try, thank you.

I wish every spammer in the world to get there eye poked out, with a nice hard skull fucking.
