Answers to some of the more frequently-asked questions about the guy behind this site. Read only if bored.
Please be aware that this page refers to the old Stickman site and is largely out of date.
Just some guy.
I'm tall, I'm thin. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
I like helping people. And I'm an incurable smart-arse -- I like to show off how clever I am.
I've been fiddling around with it since 1998...at the time of writing, that's about three years. Which in Internet terms is a lifetime.
I work in Web design for a large content site in the UK. I'm also a freelance writer.
I'm on the run from Interpol.
Sorry, I don't have the time to conduct individual lessons. I recommend you visit the links page where you'll find plenty of sites offering all sorts of help and advice.
You can try, but I can't guarantee that I'll respond. I get quite a lot of email and I just don't have time to reply to it all. You're far more likely to get an answer to your question if you visit one of the forum sites on the links page and ask your question there. I might even answer it myself.
See above.
I haven't read any books about Flash (aside from the manuals), but I've heard good things about Flash 4 Magic by David J Emberton and Flash Web Design by Hillman Curtis.
For bitmap graphics I mostly use Fireworks. I write all HTML code by hand in TextPad. For FTP transfers I use FTP Explorer. I also use the following software from time to time: PaintShop Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, The Font Thing.
Absolutely not. All the techniques you see on this site, even those based on other sites, were discovered by me either a) independently, b) by watching other peoples' work closely and working it out myself, or c) by accident. If you see a file on my site that's based on your work and are unhappy about that, please email me and we'll discuss it.
The text in the logo is called Pricedown and I found it at the excellent Larabie Fonts site. The Stickman figure is from a dingbat font called Mr Robo Funk which I found at Font Freak, another good font site.
The domain is registered with godaddy.com, which provides a very good service. The site itself is hosted by asmallorange.com, a very reasonably-priced service with more features than you could shake a very big stick at.
